Issue #231: Kinewell's software spurs scaleup journey
Today we report on the latest startup investments, Kinewell shows signs of scale and we consider how policy impacts the NE tech scene.
Morning all, don’t worry the weather hasn’t got us crying off! Who needs the toon monsoon when you’ve got the Tech Digest to wash away your worries, ey?
You’ll be pleased to know I’m ending the puns there, there’s a lot of news to get on your radar today. I mean we are a highly reputable and ever-serious newsletter, don’t you know?
First up Kinewell Energy looks poised to grow to a team of 80 staff in the next two years after launching a new head office in Newcastle city centre. It’s a big story to share this one, as we’ve reported on the positive effects the company’s software solutions have had in the offshore, renewable energy industry for what feels like a long time now. We wish Andrew and the team all the best in the next phase of their growth, which looks set to include some big hires.
On the startup front I was pleased to see a couple of investment announcements this week, with both early-stage companies familiar to those in the community. PulmoBioMed, and founder Dr Sterghios Moschos, took part in our Thinking Digital pitching competition last summer, while SQCDP, and founder Stephen ‘Mitch’ Mitchell, won our Tech Blast competition just before Christmas. Both founders are disrupting established orders in their own ways, please read about how they’re faring and what’s coming up next in This week’s news below.
Finally I recently mentioned that a new news digital platform, The QT, would be launching this month. The site went live on wednesday and has a raft of news (business and otherwise) and views from regional commentators on all things North East England. I’ll be providing a weekly tech column, the first of which I have shared in the Features section below. Have a read if you like!
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Best of luck to anyone who braves the outdoors! Cheers, Jamie
